Society in assam With 22+ Years Experience.

Society for North East Handmade Paper Development, popularly known as SNEHPAD, is a Voluntary Organisation with its permanent office at Jorhat Development Block Campus, Baghchung, Jorhat, Assam. The organisation was set up in the year 2005 with the view to promote village and cottage industries specially Handmade Paper, Natural Fibre and other similar type of activities in the North Eastern Region for employment and income generation among the youth and women who are active and searching for the opportunities to do something for his family and the society. Sri Jatindranath Das, Retired Joint Director of Agriculture Department was the founder Chairman, Syed Altaf Hussain was the founder Vice Chairman and Sri Prakash Thakur, Prominent Social Entrepreneur of the State was the founder Secretary of the Organisation. Initially SNEHPAD concentrated on promotion of Handmade Paper and Natural Fibre activity but on demand of the people of the target area, it started promoting Handloom Activity, Self Help Group Promotion, Awareness Generation on various issues relating development of poor and deprived people. On demand of the hour, SNEHPAD started promotional activities on Farm Sector, Micro Finance and Micro Insurance.

SNEHPAD has also started concentrating on Integrated Village Development and Cluster Development Programme on specific economic activity. Time to time SNEHPAD also performs environment related and other welfare activities like tree plantation, distribution of saplings of fruit bearing trees, Health Camps, Yoga Training, Vaccination of Cattle, donation of small tools and machineries to poor weavers and farmers etc. SNEHPAD also takes responsibility to train Entrepreneurs, Youths, Farmers, Women, SHGs and JLGs on various trades of their interest which can help their capacity building and skill development. Leading the small producer groups to market their products in local and outside market is one of the focused activities of SNEHPAD.

SNEHPAD continued its Village Development Plan in 4 numbers of villages in Jorhat District namely, Borkhongia, Lujonia, Deka Gaon and Napomuwa Gaon under NABARD support. The objective of this programme is to provide all need based supports to all the categories of villagers for development in an integrated way with convergence of line departments. The main target groups in this programme are farmers, unemployed youths, women and SHGs.

SNEHPAD is the recipient of National Award in the year 2010 being the Best Rural Industries Service Centre (National Level)

Presently SNEHPAD Management Committee is headed by Dr. M.P.Borthakur, Retired Professor of Assam Agricultural University as Chairman. Dr. Gakul Sarmah, Retired Veterinary Surgeon and Sri Jibon Gohain, Retired Banker are Vice Chairman. Sri Prakash Thakur, Prominent Social Entrepreneur of the State is taking the responsibility as the Secretary of the organisation.
In this year of 2015, SNEHPAD is celebrating its glorious 10th Anniversary. On this occasion, SNEHPAD is again looking back on the past activities to review it. Here is a cumulative report on SNEHPAD’s last 10 years service (2005 – 2015) to the Society.
