Discussion on Long-Term Medicinal Plant Cultivation and Herbal Processing Project in Chalaong Pothar, Golaghat District
<p>A discussion was held on organizing a long-term project on the cultivation of medicinal plants and processing of medicinal herbs in the Chalaong Pothar area of Golaghat district, involving around 200 Adivasi families. The initiative aims to promote sustainable livelihoods, strengthen traditional knowledge, and create income-generating opportunities through herbal value addition. The meeting highlighted the need for scientific cultivation practices, capacity building, and the establishment of proper processing units to ensure quality production and better market access, along with exploring linkages with relevant government schemes. The invited guest, D.J. Bora from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), shared valuable insights on community-based development and suggested avenues for technical and institutional support while emphasizing the integration of traditional knowledge with modern practices for long-term sustainability.</p>
